Best coffee shops in Mooloolaba for an early morning brew.

Staying near Mooloolaba and looking for a good coffee early morning where you can avoid the crowds and hang with the locals?

Here are a few hidden gems we have tried or have been recommended by those in the know. Open early, convenient for cyclists and popular with the Mooloolaba locals, most of these coffee shops and cafes are located off the main Mooloolaba Beach esplanade so not quite as busy over triathlon race weekends and offer a great brew of course!

CK Coffee Bar and Wholefoods

We had a delicious and super healthy breakfast here and a perfect coffee to finish off. If you are focussed on eating fresh whole foods, and like me love a green juice to start the day or almond milk in your coffee then this is your place. You can also purchase some organic fresh produce and supplies from here to enjoy in your hotel or apartment. Seems you can also book tables and there are some large wooden benches outside if you have a big family or groups of friends travelling together to compete or support their loved ones.

Colombian Coffee Co.

Recommended by a fellow triathlete, this is right across the road from CK. This place is small and cozy and seems to be a popular cyclist stop. It’s an artisanal roasting house with traditional Colombian family values. They roast their beans onsite every week for superior freshness, consistency and quality.

Shot House Brew Bar

I discovered this place the first year we visited Mooloolaba for an Ironman triathlon. Just as the Mooloolaba Esplanade starts to climb towards Alexandra, you can spot Shot House with its wooden benches and a set of wooden stairs out front. Probably quicker to get a coffee here on race day rather than near the transition, then grab yourself a good spot to support on the hill.

The Velo Project

On Carella Street in the centre of Mooloolaba town, you are guaranteed quality, fresh food sourced locally, as well as artisan espresso at this popular coffee stop and breakfast/lunch cafe. Plenty of space to prop the bikes nearby, with indoor and outdoor seating and a friendly vibe full of locals.

Good Bean

Situated just at the top of the River Esplanade near the Surf Life Saving Club. One of a chain that extends all the way to Melbourne, their focus is the coffee experience beginning from the source and ending with an expert barista. Next door is the Acai Brothers who also offer a good coffee as well as a healthy breakfast – especially their tasty smoothies and Acai bowls!

The Pallett Espresso Bar

This coffee shop is a favourite with local cyclists and a bit further from Mooloolaba Beach than the rest but a good coffee stop post or mid ride. The amazing froth art will put a smile on your face and is worthy of an Instagram post!

Along the River Esplanade across from the Wharf area you will find two little cafes Black Market Espresso and Schwenkee Espresso which both open at 6am so great options for an early morning caffeine hit for the supporters if you are staying down that end of town and walking towards the race hub.

Triathlete and Supporter tip: Don’t forget to take your reusable coffee cup on your travels. Triathlon events result in a lot of rubbish so anything we can do as individuals to decrease our footprint when we take over towns for a race helps. Early starts and long days as supporters may require a few cups of coffees so be mindful and reuse when you can!
